The IT-governance game is a management game in which the players are divided into 3 [or 4] groups (depending on the number of players) each representing a business unit of one and the same organisation. In order for the game to be a succesful awareness game each of the business units should not be to large, ideally 3 or 4 players per business unit. Therefore the game should be played with 9 to 16 players.
Currently there are two versions of the IT-governance game.
The congress version consists of one phase which takes approximately one hour to play, including the interwoven evaluation. We call it the congress version because we usually play the congress version at congresses and the like.
The extended version consists of two phases where the last phase is identical to the full congress version. The extended version takes between two and three hours to play, again including the interwoven evaluation.
Since it's genesis around 2004 the game has incarnated in several versions. The older versions upto version 5 used a beamed application to calculate market shares whereas the latest version 6 only needs hardware materials. Both versions 5 and 6 are described on their respective pages.
All the information needed to play the IT-governance game is contained in the instructions for each of the versions seperately. To play the game besides the information contained in these pages some hardware materials are needed that can be borrowed from Jeroen J van Beele.
The IT-governance game is further described in a folder (in dutch) and in detail in an article (in dutch).
Furthermore supervisors are encouraged to share their experiences.
